Your data stays yours

Data localization for your faith.

The sacred parts of your walk — what you read, what you pray, what you're wrestling with — stay on your device. Not gathered, not profiled, not sold. Below is the whole picture, including the small part that isn't on your phone.

Stored on your device

Your Bible reading, highlights, saved verses, prayers, journal, reading plans, calendar and settings live in your phone's own storage — not in a database of ours.

On your device

No ads or trackers

No advertising SDKs, no third-party trackers, no behavioural profiles. There is nothing here designed to follow you around.

By design

Nothing to sell

We don't build a picture of you to monetize. The most personal parts never reach us in the first place.

What stays on your device

  • Your Bible reading — your place, bookmarks, highlights, saved verses and read-aloud settings.
  • Your prayers and journal — every entry, every answered prayer, every testimony, private to you.
  • Your reading plans and progress — streaks, goals and milestones.
  • Your calendar and reminders — the personal ones you add yourself.
  • Your backup — the backup is a file you save yourself, wherever you choose. It doesn't pass through us.

None of that is transmitted anywhere. You can wipe all of it from inside the app in one tap — Reset my data on the You screen.

What we actually hold

A short list, and it's short on purpose:

  • Your account — the username you chose and a securely hashed PIN, so you can sign in again on a new phone. No name, no email required, no address book, no phone number.
  • A consent record — when you accept the terms, we keep a dated record of that acceptance, including the approximate region derived from your connection, to honour privacy law. This is disclosed on the screen where you accept it.
  • Two dates on your account — the last time you signed in, and the last day you opened the app while signed in. Two dates, overwritten each time, so we can tell how many people OurFold is actually serving. Not what you read, not how long for, not where — dates only.

That's it. We cannot read your prayers or your journal, because they were never sent to us.

Why installing matters here too

When you install OurFold to your home screen, the app and both Bible translations are copied onto your device, and OurFold stops needing the network at all. Left as an ordinary browser tab, it has to reach the site each time the browser decides to clear its storage. Installing is the difference between usually offline and actually offline — and the fewer requests leave your phone, the less there is to know about you.

This website

The site counts visits, and only visits. Each page view sends the page you're on, where you arrived from, and your timezone; an approximate city and device type are worked out on our side from the request. There are no cookies, no account, no precise location, and your IP address is never stored. Nothing about a visit is tied to your account or to anything in the app.

When online features arrive

Connecting to a congregation, and searching for a church nearby, are still in development. When they land they'll be opt-in and clearly labelled, and anything you share with a church group will be shared on purpose, by you. The church finder will look places up through OpenStreetMap — a third-party service that sees a search, not who you are — behind its own consent step. The private core will never require any of it.

The full, formal notice lives with the app.
